Chris Beckett’s Dark Eden is a book that I read in two sittings only because I forced myself to go to bed at a reasonable time.
In Dark Eden he creates a world you won’t easily forget. In fact – 24 hours after putting it down it’s themes and characters as well as the physics of this world are still haunting me.
Literary themes he covers include not merely Eden, but also Cain and Abel. You’ll get hints of Robinson Crusoe as well as the anthropology of male/female relations.
That sounds like a lot – it is. But it’s also simply a story of growing up, a story of a forbidden frontier and a story that will make you think about yourself and human relations in a new way.
